Celebration Orlando. Fact Or Fiction.

Saturday, November 8th, 2025

What happened to Disney Celebration Village

Celebration, Orlando, was the brainchild of The Walt Disney Corporation, developed in the mid-1990s to create a master-planned community. Its location gives it direct access to Walt Disney World via the fantastic World Drive.

Initially, many Orlando visitors see Celebration as a clean, colourful place reserved only for the wealthy to live and shop. Yet, Celebration is also home to many famous people from all kinds of backgrounds, including former basketball player Michael Jordan.

Disney developed Celebration at a cost of $2.5 billion, and as a result, the area quickly became one of the most sought-after places to buy property. From the white picket fences to the swinging chair on the porch, Celebration perfectly captures the vision of America many people see in films and documentaries.

The village’s clean-cut, retro appearance shows everywhere, from the architecture to the public telephones—a refreshing change from the remainder of Orlando’s typical glass-fronted high-rise offices and modern malls. Ultimately, Celebration offers plenty of amenities for both residents and visitors.

Things to Do and See in Celebration

To begin your visit, Celebration’s picturesque Town Centre, which overlooks Lake Rianhard, forms the community’s heart and activity hub.

Below are some of the best activities and attractions to check out:

  • Walk, Stroll, and Bike: Take a leisurely walk or alternatively rent a bike from Celebration Bicycle Rental to explore the town’s scenic lakes and over 10 miles of beautiful trails. Rocking chairs line the lakefront, inviting visitors to relax and enjoy the view.
  • Take the Architectural Tour: Pick up a map at Town Hall and guide yourself through the town to learn about the unique buildings created by celebrated architects.
  • The Lakeside Promenade Fountain: Find a lovely spot by Lake Rianhard to sit; children often enjoy playing in the interactive water jets here.
  • Celebration Golf Club: This outstanding course offers golfers of all abilities a challenging test within a glorious natural environment.
  • Farmers Market: The Celebration Farmers Market operates every Sunday on Market Street, offering fresh produce, local eats, and crafts.

Enjoy Seasonal Events and Decorations

In addition to year-round amenities, Celebration has become famous for its festive holiday atmosphere, making certain times of the year especially popular for a visit.

The Christmas Season (Late November – December 31st)

This is arguably the best time to visit. The Town Centre stages nightly “snowing” events where “Snoap” (a non-toxic, biodegradable product) falls on Market Street. Events include a tree lighting ceremony, horse-drawn carriage rides, ice skating on a synthetic rink, and visits with Santa.

The Lights on Jeater Bend

Starting around Thanksgiving, a spectacular light show synchronized to music takes place on Jeater Bend street, where multiple homes participate in a dazzling display.

Halloween

The community fully embraces the spooky spirit. Although events aren’t centralized like Christmas, the charming neighbourhoods and their front porches feature great decorations, perfect for an admiring drive or walk.

Celebration Shopping & Retail

The Town Centre offers a variety of unique shops for gifts and novelties. Even though the small cinema has closed, the shopping area remains colourful and beautifully presented.

Shops include:

  • Market Street Gallery: This unique boutique gift store carries home décor, collectibles, as well as a popular year-round Christmas room.
  • Soft as a Grape: A long-standing shop offering comfortable resort wear and apparel.
  • Gypsy Moon Market: Sells unique gifts, jewellery, essential oils, and furthermore offers a menu of healthy items like smoothies and acai bowls.
  • Kilwin’s: Makes ice cream, homemade fudge, and sweet treats.
  • Le Macaron: An authentic French patisserie selling delicious macarons and other French sweets.
  • Woof Gang Bakery & Grooming: A boutique for pets.

What is the best mall to go to in Orlando?

Thanks to an improving exchange rate for many European visitors, Orlando is one of the best vacation destinations for those who like a little retail therapy. In fact, from designer labels to electronics, you can find some great deals. Consequently, there are many fantastic shopping malls in and around the Orlando area.

Florida Mall (Updated)

Florida Mall is a favourite among residents and international visitors alike. Specifically, it’s located only about five minutes from the Orlando International Airport. With over 250 stores, the mall offers a spacious, air-conditioned environment. You can relax as you browse your favorite outlets and department stores. For example, these stores include the fabulous Macy’s and JC Penney. Furthermore, the mall recently welcomed Primark, a new anchor store. Ample free parking surrounds the mall; however, be sure to remember your vehicle’s location. The Dining Pavilion has over 25 restaurants and can get very busy. Even so, there are plenty of cuisine choices available. In addition, the mall offers various services, such as valet parking, currency exchange, and package and baggage check.

Altamonte Mall (Updated)

Altamonte Mall is located north of downtown Orlando. The address is 415 East Altamonte Drive, Altamonte Springs, Florida 32701. Therefore, it is ideal for a lazy afternoon away from the theme parks. Overall, the mall offers a great opportunity for quiet shopping. It is home to about 160 stores. Lately, the mall has been updated to enhance the visitor experience. For instance, a vibrant, hand-painted mural by artist Steffi Lynn is now on the bottom floor. Also, scooter animal rentals are a fun new way to explore the space. Parking is free of charge, as is the case at all Orlando shopping malls.

Mall at Millenia (Updated)

Mall at Millenia is considered the premium Orlando shopping mall. It is located at 4200 Conroy Road, Orlando, FL 32839. To clarify, the mall features modern architecture, including a full glass roof. It offers a variety of shops and outlets for all purses and wallets. Crucially, this is the only place visitors can shop at Tiffany & Co., Gucci, Prada, and Jimmy Choo.

The mall continues to excel as a luxury destination. In recent months, new luxury brands have been welcomed, including Balenciaga, Gorjana (jewellery), and Tecovas (Western boots). Moreover, several existing luxury brands are expanding their retail spaces. This includes Louis Vuitton, Gucci, and Aritzia.

Conversely, if designer prices are too high, you can visit other stores like Apple, Macy’s, H&M, and Bloomingdale’s. The spacious food court is on the first floor. It provides numerous dining options, including the new Rosetta Bakery. This area can get very busy. Hence, it’s sometimes best to secure a table before ordering to avoid wandering with hot food. Both paid valet parking and free regular parking are available.

Similarly, boutiques like Free People and Kendra Scott have also been added.

Holidays to Florida normally conjure up images of packed theme parks and bustling beaches, but for a growing group of urban explorers, it’s the state’s abandoned places that are the main attraction. We featured some of Florida’s most awesome unfinished and abandoned structures back in 2008 – and now we’ve found even more. Although my family and I have flown to Florida on numerous previous occasions, we have never flown with Virgin Atlantic. That was until July 2010 when we flew direct from Manchester to Orlando International.

Previous years have seen us fly from our local airport into Gatwick for our onward flight into Orlando, however since BA lost the domestic route to Fly Be, it meant that we would have  to endure a bus transfer between Heathrow and Gatwick to pick up our onward flights both on the outgoing and return journeys.
